Mission Style Computer Desk

A Mission Style computer desk is a great blend of old and new.
The classic artsy craftsy design doesn’t hinder in any way the use of your technology.
A typical such computer desk might include:
- A pull-out keyboard tray with storage space
- A tempered glass desk top
- Oak frame with the bare essentials.
Or a heavier more solid unit might have a brown mahogany finish with a solid drawered desk look. Multiple drawers are matched with a good-sized cabinet, so that your cluttered work area can look clean and neat. One mission style computer desk I was looking at has three drawers on the right side that progress in size from small to large, the bottom drawer being deep storage for larger things.
On the left side is a cabinet large enough to contain your computer tower or some other larger items, and above the cabinet is a small drawer good for pencils, pens, flash storage drives, etc.
Lastly, a nice feature of this desk is a slide-out keyboard drawer which has a fold-down face over the seating space. Useful for easy access to keyboard typing or extra storage.
Although it’s finished with mahogany, it has solid Asian hardwood legs and a tough birch veneer. This computer desk will last considerably longer than your latest computer
A computer desk, mission style or not, should be both useful and nice looking. Spend some serious time looking at your options, first online, then maybe in person.
Here are some considerations when choosing a computer desk:
1. Plan out where you are going to place your printer, modems, routers, scanners, external hard drives, and other peripherals — in relation to your new desk. This will help in selecting a desk that is right for you.
2. Determine how much storage space you need for your desk. Some consider it critical to have a file drawer built in. Others use a file cabinet convenient to the computer desk. The key is to organize mentally before you get your desk and need to organize physically.
3. Consider the decor of the room you place the computer desk in. You’re already considering a mission style computer desk. Consider getting other mission style items to complement it. Ambiance can make long hours at the computer seem shorter.
4. Check out the measurements of your new desk, especially if you’re looking around online. Compare with what you might already have to make sure that your monitor is at the right height. The top of your monitor should be fairly close to eye level, so that you don’t have to look up at your screen, causing neck strain.
5. Compare prices. Don’t make pricing your only consideration, especially if you’re interested in a classic piece of mission furniture that will add beauty to your room. But the Net has made it much easier to do some comparison shopping before you take the plunge.
Anyway, enjoy your new computer desk, but only after you’ve done your homework.
